New Release Sneaky Peek - Verity's Lie by Grace Elliot

Charles Huntley, Lord Ryevale, infamous rogue…and government agent.

In unsettled times, with England at war with France, Ryevale is assigned to covertly protect a politician’s daughter, Miss Verity Verrinder. To keep Verity under his watchful eye, Ryevale plots a campaign of seduction that no woman can resist– except it seems, Miss Verrinder. In order to gain her trust Ryevale enters Verity’s world of charity meetings and bookshops…where the unexpected happens and he falls in love with his charge.

When Lord Ryevale turns his bone-melting charms on her, Verity questions his lordship’s motivation. But with her controlling father abroad, Verity wishes to explore London and reluctantly accepts Ryevale’s companionship. As the compelling attraction between them strengthens, Verity is shattered to learn her instincts are correct after all – and Ryevale is not what he seems. If Lord Ryevale can lie, then so can she…but with disastrous consequences.

Excerpt: Verity’s Lie by Grace Elliot

Verity closed the library door and wilted.  With toe-curling embarrassment she recalled her prudish disapproval and cringed afresh.  Why couldn't she have appeared worldly and calm, instead of behaving like a stuttering, prissy schoolgirl.  And why Lord Ryevale, of all people?  If she hadn't been distracted by plans to confront her father, then she wouldn't have been caught so off guard.  Verity took comfort in that it was unlikely their paths would cross again.
Clutching Cicero against her chest like a shield, Verity composed her thoughts before facing her father, then made for the garden.  The root of her discomfort lay in noticing Lord Ryevale earlier that evening.  When he arrived, the atmosphere had changed tangibly; women became more vivacious and men bristled defensively.  He moved with the self-assurance of a pack leader and, when he passed close by, a wicked smile quirked across his intriguing lips—and Verity didn't usually notice mouths.  But more alarming still were his eyes—nut brown and intense—and when he had glanced in her direction, she felt as if he could read her mind.  Shaken, she wondered if she had inherited her mother's weakness for the opposite sex, a sobering thought that worried her.
From his wide chest and broad shoulders, to the square jaw and strong cheekbones, Ryevale filled her mind; so when she had received her father's note to fetch his copy of Cicero, she had welcomed the excuse to leave the ball and calm her wits.  That was, until she opened the library door to find the man she was running from in a compromising position with another man's wife.
After three laps of the garden, her cheeks had cooled and her mind felt more ordered.
Tonight she would seize the moment; before her father left on business, she would appeal for more freedom.  Her speech planned out, she was ready to face him.
Verity hurried along the corridor, pausing outside the study door to straighten her hair. This was it: now or never.  She knocked and, at a gruff acknowledgment from the other side, entered.
Between the gloomy room and being a little nearsighted, it took Verity a moment to assimilate three men were present: her father, the prime minister and a figure in the shadows.
"Father.  Lord Liverpool."  She squinted, trying to identify their guest.  As Ryevale stepped forward, her pulse hit a crescendo.  Alarm fluttered in her breast, threatening her ability to breathe.  "My lord."  How her voice held steady, she had no idea.
            "Good evening."
He stood at ease, which irritated her.  Why did her wits scatter like pigeons before a cat when he smiled in that bone-melting way?  Annoyed at herself, she answered his smile with a glare before turning to her father.  "Your book, Father."
            "Ah, Verity.  Thank you."
Her father took a cursory glance at the spine then set the Cicero aside.
Verity longed to escape, to be able to breathe and to release the tension swelling in her chest.
"If that's all, I won't intrude further."  She felt Ryevale's gaze, hot against her skin, and some unnamed sensation coiled and tightened inside.
"Ah, Verity, let me introduce my guest."
"We've already met," she replied tartly.

Aussie Adventures - Using Australian Slang.

For those of you who don't realize, I'm an Australian. We're an odd bunch down here at the bottom of the world. We use language differently (in some ways) and often people from other countries stare at you strangely if you use a colloquialism they don't understand, or god forbid, means something different in their part of the world.

Now I have to admit, I don't generally use a lot of slang in my everyday life. I don't say g'day mate, I say hi or hello. I don't intentionally include it in my books, but it does sometimes slip through and is often picked up in edits. I'm a bit of an oddity really because often, if I meet people who talk like say, Crocodile Dundee, I almost cringe. You see, I had a bit of a My Fair Lady (Pygmalion) aspect to my childhood. When I was growing up I had elocution lessons, because my mother insisted I speak like a lady. If you're unsure what elocution is I'll give you the nutshell version. Learning proper diction, prose, gestures and stance mainly pertaining to giving speeches. Very old fashioned really. My mother used to glare at me when I'd tell my friends I was 'learnin how ta talk proppa'.  Anyway, that's all beside the point, it does, however, explain my lack of slang when it comes to speaking and the fact that, when I swear (like a lady does) I pronounce the words with perfect diction.

So onto the actual post for today. Australian Slang (pronounced Or-starl-ian slang). I found some examples that may be useful if you ever decide to visit down under and want to talk tot he local. Enjoy.

Lets start with gender:

Sheila or chick: a female.

Bloke: a male.

Mate: The unisex term for a friend, acquaintance or basically just another human being whether you know them or not. It's often added to greeting i.e. G'day, mate.

Names you may be called:

Dag: an affectionate term used to describe a person that's a bit unusual or eccentric/silly. It also means a piece of poo hanging from a sheep's bottom, but we don't tend to think of that meaning when used in relation to a person.

Bogan: This refers to a person that's not very smart or stylish. You really don't want to be called a bogan, it's not a compliment.

Whinger: Someone that likes to complain a lot, again it's not a compliment.

Sleaze: a person who is unpleasant, or makes unwanted sexual advances (usually male). We have a few down here and they are to be avoided. I tend to identify them by the physical symptoms that accompany their presence i.e the urge to vomit on their shoes and then run away to take a shower.

Places or events you may attend:

Arial Pingpong: AFL or Australian Rules football.  This is a sprting activity that, personally, I refer to as soft porn. I do so because all the players wear really tight, skimpy shorts and tops that let you admire their totally to die for athletic bodies. The players generally have great firm asses, washboard abs, muscular shoulders, arms and legs. Unfortunately, I don't know what any of them actually look like because I never look at their faces.

Footy: Some form of football, including the game above. Other football codes include rugby league (NRL or National Rugby League), rugby (the rich cousin to the NRL) often referred to as rugger and soccer (yawn). Soccer holds no interest for me due to the fact that the players aren't big and burly Adonises who spend the game chasing whoever has the ball and physically tackling each other to the ground in a sexy, Neanderthal, masculine way.

Blackwood Hotel (Pub) in country
Victoria. The town had a cafe, a
post office and the pub.
Pub: A bar /hotel that you may go to for a drink or a meal. Most pubs usually have good cheep meals and alcohol, which is often not so cheep. All Aussie towns have pubs, some have more than one. It's an odd Australian phenomenon that even little towns who don't have a bank, post office or even a doctor, will have a pub, sometimes two.

(As a side issue the following two references relate to what may happen if you visit a pub).

Booze/Grog: This refers to alcohol, sold at the above establishments and lot and lots of other places in Australia because traditionally we're a country of drinkers. If someone ask do you want to go to the local boozer they are asking you out to the local pub.

Gutted, maggoted, para, blind, slaughtered, pissed off his/her head, shit-faced: These are all terms that you apply to you if you go to the pub and have to much to drink and get drunk. Even though I don't often use a lot of slang I have been shit-faced a few time in my life.

Barbie: This has nothing to do with a tiny waist, big boobed doll that has taken over the world, it's the shortened word for barbecue. So if someone says do you want to have a barbie while you're here it's safe to say yes. A lot of Aussie barbies are BYO meaning bring your own often grog but sometimes also meat.

Bog/Dunny/Loo/Ladies/Gents: If someone tells you they are 'off too' any of these places don't follow them, unless that's you're personal kink, they are going to the toilet/bathroom.

Other stuff:

Snag: This is not a sensitive new age gentleman it's a sausage, and you throw it on the barbie, along with your prawn (or shrimp) if you're so inclined.

Root/Shag: If someone wants to root or shag you then it means they want to have sex. They're both such romantic terms.

Wombat: Yes, this is a fury marsupial but it's also a man you need to avoid. If a bloke is a wombat it means he's not marrying or really even dating material. He likes to use women. The term refers to a male who eats, roots, shoots and leaves (think about it).

Donger: A penis. So, if for some reason you decided to have sex with the above, make sure he has a big donger.

Pull ya head in: if your told to do this it means mind your own business.

Hang on: Unless you're dangling from a cliff by your fingernails this means can you wait a minute.

That stinks: This statement has nothing to do with odor, it means something is bad or you don't like it.

She'll be right. This statement often includes the word mate at the end. She'll be right, mate. It means it will be alright or we can fix it.

G'day: Hello

No worries: There is nothing to worry about, it's okay. It can also mean, yes, I'll do that. (i.e Q: Will you fix the loo for me? A: Now worries, mate.)

Off your rocker: This refers to a person who is behaving abnormally or crazy.

Well that's all I can think of for now, there are literally hundreds of terms, some more popular than others. Have you heard or read anything, words or phrases, that have confused you when you've been reading an Aussie author's book, or on the net talking to an Aussie?

Feel free to list favorite words or phrases or ask what something means by leaving a comment.

Renovators have invaded the home of Jason and Eliza Wu. The two haven’t seen a clean surface in months and, even worse, haven’t had a moment to themselves. With stress in their work lives added to stress at home, the couple desperately needs to have some fun. Jason and Eliza embark on a bold plan to make love and get out of the house—at the same time. Through a series of hot adventures and wild mishaps in the car, at Eliza’s mother’s house, on the top floor of the library and everywhere in between, Jason and Eliza find that not only can they survive renovations, they might even be sorry when they’re over.
A Romantica® contemporary erotic romance from Ellora’s Cave
Excerpt: Get Laid
By scooting the heaviest things out of the way with the side of her thigh, Eliza could open the refrigerator door just enough to slide her arm in and identify a wine cooler by shape. She snaked it out of the refrigerator, but her hand slipped on the sweating glass bottle just before she got it clear. It crashed to the floor and shattered, soaking the lower half of her stockings and the big bags of flour and rice from the pantry with pink, sugary alcohol. Shards of glass surrounded her and Eliza swallowed, thinking of her bare feet.
Her husband responded before she could. “Don’t move,” Jason said. He was barefoot himself, but that didn’t stop him from getting in close enough to sweep her up into his arms. The man might sit behind a desk all day at work, but he put in his time at the gym. His taut muscles flexed around Eliza as he lifted her out of the mess and glass and tucked her against his chest.
Jason carried Eliza to the other side of the room and set her on the table. “Are you all right? Did you cut yourself?” He lifted one sticky, stocking-covered foot in his hand and inspected it for injuries.
“I didn’t get hurt.” Eliza caught his other hand and brought it to her lips. “Thanks, Jason. Really.”
He kissed the side of her face in response, and she wished he’d gone for her mouth instead. She reached to pull him in for a better kiss, but before she could he crossed back to the refrigerator and folded his arms across his chest. Eliza and Jason both sighed.
“I think we’re going to have to throw all this food away because of the glass,” Jason said.
“I’m sorry.” She got off the table and tapped one foot, trying to remember where they’d moved the broom.
“You stay there. I’ll take care of this.”
“If you say so.”
“I do.”
Eliza smiled, a little of the tension easing. “I want to do something really fun at home for our anniversary. It’s five years, and maybe our last chance before we have to grow up for real and behave. We should jump on the beds and have sex on the kitchen table.”
“About that…”
“What?”
“If you haven’t opened the document I shared with you, then you didn’t see the note I made about the latest delay.”
Eliza’s voice darkened. “What?”
“When they checked out the master bathroom, they found a rotten beam. It needs to be fixed, but Bob said it means the job won’t be done until mid-August.”
“But that’s only two weeks before our anniversary! That’s more than a month behind schedule.”
Jason shrugged. He wrapped his hand in a dishtowel and began throwing items from the pantry into a big black trash bag. “I don’t like it any more than you. They have to finish the job eventually, one way or another.”
“He always finds something else! Did you ask him if he’s sure about the schedule this time?”
Jason stood abruptly and stepped away from the mess in front of the refrigerator. “I don’t want you criticizing me for how I talked to Bob. Why did we think renovations were a good idea?”
“Oh, Jason.” Eliza rushed to his side and tried to put her arms around him, but he shook her off.
Her husband rubbed one hand over his face. “I don’t want us to fight again. I want to have a nice time with you tonight. Do you know why I was upset when you got home? I left the office a little early and I was going to straighten up around here and make you dinner. If we could open the damn refrigerator, you’d see I picked up avocados and a bunch of other stuff you like. I got home and found the kitchen like this, and I knew I couldn’t get it sorted out in time to surprise you.”
Jason grunted and tossed a few more things into the trash bag. Eliza hovered nearby, wishing she could wave their problems away and start the fun they both wanted. She found herself staring at his firm ass, trying to remember the last time she’d really grabbed it. They’d always had a good relationship, a hot relationship. She’d been shocked to see how the stress of renovations had reduced them to sniping at each other.
“I miss you, Jason.”
He stopped moving. “What do you mean?”
“I miss your body. When was the last time we really had some time to ourselves?”
“You mean other than time we spend complaining to each other about the renovations from hell?”
“I love that you were going to make me dinner. Really, I do. It’s just there’s something I might need more than dinner. I think we both need it.”
A slow grin spread over Jason’s face. “I may have had an ulterior motive when I decided to make you dinner.”
“I hope you did.” Eliza reached out to him with one hand. “Can’t we clean it up in the morning? We have to stop letting these renovations ruin our lives.”
Jason took her in his arms before she finished her sentence.

EXCERPT

“Oh, God. Have mercy.”
“Not this time, babe.” Jared easily lifted her butt and slid one end of the scarf under it. Quickly, he had her loins encased in silk and handed the ends of the scarf to her care. “I won’t be needing these for awhile. You may find a use for them.”
Her fingers curled around the scarf and he settled between her legs. He laved the silk around the edges of her pussy and then looked up with a grin. “Isn’t it amazing how silk feels when it gets wet—your juices and my tongue.”
She tugged on the silk scarf, increasing the pressure against her loins, and nodded jerkily. “Make me come, Jared.”
“Like this?” He tongued the silk covering her pussy and pushed a little inside her folds.
“Oh, yeah. That’ll do it. A little more.”
He lifted his head and shook it when he saw her distressed glower. “Not yet,” he whispered, retrieving the scarf. “Not nearly yet. You won’t come until I’m ready for you to come.” He laughed as her gaze burned into him. He grabbed her wrist and tied one end of the scarf loosely around it. Her eyes rounded with awareness.
Her lower lip trembled slightly when he tied the overlap of the knot around a bedpost. She didn’t move when he reached for her other wrist.
“You know what I’m going to do?”
She nodded. “You’re going to ravish me.”

Guest Author - Mila Kerr - To Flaw or Not to Flaw a Character

As an author, you create a character hoping the reader loves her as much as you do...unless it's a villain, of course. You want your character development to be so strong that the reader falls in love and hates to see her go when they read the words "The End."

So, when I created my lead character, Rylie James, I had a very hard decision to make. To flaw or not to flaw. That was the question.

Rylie is sexy, sultry, hard working, and would do anything for the ones she loves. So far so good, right? The perfect lead character. BUT I decided to throw a wrench in the story. I decided to add stubborn, opinionated, domineering and just plain bossy to the mix. I decided to make her flawed.

I wanted her to be real. To be like so many of us. I wanted my other lead character, Luna Forester, to fall in love with EVERYTHING about her. I wanted Luna to love the good and the bad. That's what we all really hope for in real life, so why not make that dynamic come to fruition in Aspen Meadows?

Readers may not love everything about Rylie. I'm sure some people will think she's flawed, I just hope they fall in love with her regardless. I did! J

If you had the chance to step back in time, would you?

What if you could live in a community built around the morals of yesterday?

Rylie James isn't happy in today's world. She longs for a time when life was simpler. When people could work off their land and be part of a true, small town community. Trying to bring back history, Rylie has spent years building a new society that is a replica of an old 1800's town.

Before making the big move to the historical utopia of Aspen Meadows, Rylie's world is turned upside down by the free spirited Luna Forester. Now she questions if she is trying to build happiness, when she may be staring directly into it.

Luna Forester's entire life is about to change with one single proposition: move to Aspen Meadows and create a new future. Moving to Aspen Meadows is her chance to start over. Start a new life, find happiness...and possibly find love. But can she deal with the stubborn, overbearing, yet completely seductive, Rylie James?

New Release Sneaky Peek - Silly Girl by Michel Prince

Are professional sports just children’s games played by oversized kids?

With an all-consuming focus Matthias Jessup has sacrificed his body in pursuit of greatness. But while he’s enjoyed the spoils of being an elite athlete, the physical punishment can only be held at bay for so long. He knows his time is running out and he will have to face his future soon.

Sylvia Kinder is obsessed with Matthias' public image. But now that her fantasy has walked into her life, could it possibly lead to a happy ending? She worries if there's any place for her in his world, much less his heart.

Drawn to each other on a chance meeting, Matthias must look off the court and discover the real world, while Sylvia will have to find the strength of self to not become lost in a world she doesn’t understand.  But those who aren’t ready for a life after the game surround Matthias and are willing to do anything to keep him on the court.

Excerpt #1 - Silly Girl by Michel Prince

Sylvia Kinder tingled with heat as she watched Matthias Jessup’s body move with hard, calculated lunges leading to only one conclusion…
“Yes!” she screamed, thrusting her arms into the air.
“You want a beer?” her best friend Leslie asked.
“No, I’m good.”
“It wasn’t that good of a shot.”
“Yes it was. Do you have any idea how hard it is to dribble into traffic and come out with a basket like that?”
“Be honest, do you actually climax when he scores? Because if that’s the case, then I understand why you love the league’s leading scorer.”
“Only the trick shots,” Sylvia chided her friend. “And he’s not in the lead right now.”
“You’re like a walking sportscaster spouting useless information. I swear you could come up with a stat about how often he takes a dump before a game and its direct correlation to his ability to rebound.”
“Matthias doesn’t take dumps, but he does average eleven point six rebounds a game so far this season.”
“He’s human, Sylvia.”
“If he’s human, I’m an amoeba.”
Sylvia couldn’t explain why Matthias Jessup had her undying love, but she’d followed him since he first hit Sports Center at age sixteen. He had it all. Then he was still a little gangly, but now he was tall and fit with the toned body of a god. His milk chocolate skin was flawless. He always sported a perfectly shaved head and goatee; even his street clothes were finely pressed.
She remembered the headlines. “There’s a new MJ on the horizon. Check this kid out. Matthias Jessup is a junior at Trinity High School in southern Alabama. Images of the player flashed across the screen. Flying through the air. Finishing an alley-oop. “After the drafting of Kobe Bryant last year, and Kevin Garnett the year before, high schools across the country have been forwarding their star players to the NBA. But this MJ may be the heir apparent to take over when Michael Jordan steps down from his throne.”

Excerpt #2 - Silly Girl by Michel Prince

Sitting in his chair, he started up the game. The screen was split at four different angles as he started his analysis. He could hear someone in the kitchen.
“Langston, grab me a fruit punch.”
“Langston is in his apartment.” Silly’s voice was slow and seductive, but Matthias wasn’t in the mood.
“I need a second pair of eyes, you up for it?” Matthias asked, not taking his focus off the screen.
“No,” Silly said, and Matthias caught a flash out of the corner of his eye.
“Fine. I’ll see you in the morning.”
“Not gonna happen.” She walked in front of Matthias whose hand went up to push her out of the way. “Matthias. Turn off the game.”
Matthias looked up at her. She was only in the white and black striped button up shirt she’d been wearing at the game. It ended an inch below her cat. That, and a pair of heels that had to be at least four inches. The top five buttons of her shirt had been undone showing a lace bra with her breasts fighting their way out.
“Silly, I need to review this. I’m not in the mood.”
She didn’t move. In fact, she stood right in front of him. Matthias reached for her hips and started to move her to the side.
Bending over she looked him in the eye.
“Matthias, did you know that when you lose, it takes two more games for you to get a win?”
“What are you talking about?”
Silly got on her knees before him and bit at her bottom lip. He looked back at the screen.
“Look at that. Carmichael isn’t running the zone. What the hell is he…Silly.”
Her fingers pulled on his belt as she slowly unzipped his pants.
“I appreciate it, but I have a method.”
“It doesn’t work.”
It was then he noticed a pink shine on her lips catching the light.
“You will lose the next two games if you review this tape now.” Her voice was soft and slow. Then her hand reached for his cock, which hardened from her touch. “I propose that you watch this all day tomorrow. When you’re running. While you eat breakfast. But right now, you need to try something different. Let me help you clear your head and separate from the game. If not this playoff is going to end up being a seven game series and your knees need the rest, you can earn from winning in five.”
Her lips parted as she took him into her mouth. The warmth surrounded his hardness as she started to suck. He tried in vain to focus on one of the sections of the screen as she took long pulls on his manhood.
“Silly…” He tried to stop her, but her finger found his lips. Drawing it into his mouth he let his tongue take over. Silly’s lips rode up and down his shaft as her hand glided along. His fingers tangled in her beautiful dark brown hair.
“I need…” She sucked harder letting her tongue glide around the top of him, and he was done. The remote fell to the ground. He could always rewind that part. As she pulled he turned his head to watch the beauty of her taking him on like this.
Why did she wait until today to go down on him? Seriously, all these months and she chose today to rock his world. She was too skilled to have never done this before.
His free hand curled into a fist as Silly increased her speed and pressure.
Matthias was in love with her. Looking down her back the sight of the curve of her ass in those heels was enough to make his balls tighten and he knew he was about to come. Silly pulled away and let her tongue spin around his tip, then lightly kiss it. She left him on the edge.
His cock throbbed as he looked at her.
“I’m not stupid. You follow me into the bedroom and I’ll finish that.” She put her hands on the armrests and pushed up. Walking slowly he could hear the click of her heels. Frustrated, he looked at the screen with the game still running on it. “Or you could fuck me like I stole something.”
